Tony for the past 34 years has been playing and coaching soccer at all amateur levels since arriving in Red Deer from Northern Ireland in 1972. He didn't begin his soccer career until the late age of 16 years in his home country, Northern Ireland. He began playing for his home town Banbridge youth team for two years before signing and playing semi professional with Glenavon in the Irish Premier League. While playing for Glenavon he attracted the interest from Blackpool in England but decided to move his family to Canada in 1972. When he arrived in Red Deer there was no soccer, so together with few contacts they attracted players from all over Central Alberta and formed a team in Red Deer. The team succeeded at all levels of competition and became the first team to represent Red Deer in the Alberta Major Soccer League.

His interest to pursue the coaching aspect of soccer began when he met Steve Fullarton and Omar Martinez These excellent coaches convinced him that he had the experience and talent to become a technical coach. Tony has successfully acquired his B" License and is also N.C.C.P certified. Tony is certified in CPR and First Aid. He has also worked as a Technical Coach for Red Deer City Soccer Association. He also was technical coach with First Touch Soccer Academy.

Those who know Tony Sheehan, understand how passionate he is about the sport of soccer. His home has always been open to soccer enthusiasts of any age and yes, he does wear his love for the game on his sleeve. "My one goal in life now, other than winning the lottery, is to have as many players as possible from Red Deer United Soccer Club take their game to the highest level."

"The sky is the limit. Follow your dreams and desires." ~ Tony Sheehan
